4 Tips for Down Days

4 Tips for Down Days

It's raining and an all 'round icky day in Brisbane - great for writing the book and cooking in the test kitchen - but not great for general life and #mood.

If you're prone to down days when it's grey outside, or just because it's a certain day of the week (Monday for most but if I'm having a down day it's Thursday), here are my foolproof tricks for getting through the haze.

  1. Read about other people's experiences. No matter what you're going through chances are someone has been there and lived to tell the tale. My favourite website for this is OKREAL.
  2. I love this episode of Cherry Bombe Radio where Babycakes founder Erin McKenna talks about her struggle to find her place in the workplace to the moment she was inspired to start her business. I refer back to it when I need to be reassured I'm headed down the right path. The Ina Garten chats are wonderful too, do you know she worked on nuclear energy policy in the White House before becoming a US cooking queen?
  3. Sign up to attend an event that interests you. I have listened to so many inspiring speakers, met so many interesting people in the past 12 months just by signing up to attend local (and usually free) events on offer in my city. You'd be surprised what's out there.
  4. Bake. 'Nuff said. One of my favourite things to do is cream butter and sugar together and create something. It helps I'm testing a gazillion recipes too.

And if all else fails there's always Gilmore Girls (read all about the Netflix 'revival' here).

So I want to know, what are your failproof methods for hauling yourself out of a funk?
